THERAPEUTIC HOLIDAYS
IN GREECE
The bond between water and life is strongly connected
and we know that water is the life itself, since the cells of every
living organism on this planet are mostly water.
It was only natural for man to see water as the most precious gift
and impute it with super natural and divine qualities. All the religions
of the world use water as purifying source and used it at their
dogmas.
Jesus Christ was baptized in the water of the river Jordan, Ganges
river in India is the sacred source that purifies everything, the
Nile river that the ancient Egyptians thought as their father and
creator, and in Greek mythology Ocean was the father of all, with
the Nymphs, Nereids, Oceanides and Naiads live next to rivers, streams
and lakes.
Water is the most precious natural product and is used daily in
various ways by all the living organisms.
To be clean is connected with the well being and was an important
aspect in the life of our ancient ancestors. In every ancient civilization
water was a great part in the social and the religious life.
Between the great findings in Knossos, Festos, Tirintha, Pilos and
many other important ancient cities, luxury and artful decorated
spas and baths were found, close to houses and temples, proving
the respect that the ancient ancestors had for healing and well
being properties of the water.
In the general Mediterranean area with the good climate there are
many areas that combine the natural beauty, with magnificent beaches,
rich forests and have natural water springs, flowing through the
earth absorbing minerals and chemicals with healing properties.
Evia and more particularly North Evia is a place that would be easily
called a paradise, because of the natural beauty and the many springs
with healing properties that flow in many regions in the northern
part of the island.
Since the ancient years, Edipsos was a famous spa and bath center
and many ancient writers such Plutarch, Stravon, Atheneos and others,
have mentioned the city in their writings. Because of the spas the
city was attracting many important visitors, such as the Roman general
Sylla, the emperor Adrian and in the more recent years, the cosmopolitan
spas were visited by personalities such as Winston Churchill, Maria
Kallas, Queen Olga and others.
Besides the springs, Edipsos was known since the ancient years for
the spas of Kymi, an important ancient city, Yialtra a picturesque
coastal village and Helia, a beautiful fishing village 5 km away
from Aedipsos with natural springs with healing properties.
The subsoil of Evia and Central Greece is formed in a way the allows
the water flowing and welling up, through rocks and minerals absorbing
all the healing elements that give the healing and well being properties
in the water.
There are many springs and spa centers ideal for baths and spas,
that today are fully organized with modern facilities such as the
spas of Ypati, Thermopiles and Kamena Vourla. |
